Earth has an evil twin. Venus. It is shrouded in a lethal atmosphere of carbon dioxide and acid rain. The surface temperature is hot enough to melt lead and the pressure high enough to crush a nuclear submarine.

The Earth is built to last. It is a 4,550,000,000-year-old, 5,973,600,000,000,000,000,000-tonne ball of rock and iron. It has taken more devastating asteroid hits in its lifetime than you've had hot dinners, and it still orbits happily around the sun.

By far the largest planet, 1300 times the size of Earth, it’s a world so enormous it could swallow every planet and moon in the solar system and still have room to spare.

Astronauts and Cosmonauts train and study for years to work and live aboard the International Space Station. With this wealth of experience and insight behind them what do they think when they return to Earth?

Our atmosphere is an unbelievably complex machine that protects us from the vacuum of space, shelters us from harmful radiation and allows us and the biosphere to breath; we need to learn much more about it so we can better it.

The next 12 months will see an intense rise in flight tests, demonstration launches and high priority flights. Some are on time others are not. We check the flight status of some of this new hardware and these new capabilities.

For over 50 years we have bombarded Mars with our probes and landers. Spying from orbit to map terrain, finding her strengths and weaknesses. The time nearing for the full scale invasion of the planet- when humans walk on Mars and claim it for their own.

The Amazing Cassini spacecraft and its sibling lander, Huygens, have now concluded their scientific studies, bringing back years of data. Now, Juno piercing the cloak of Jupiter and her distant relative New Horizons at the edge of the solar system.

Soviet Luna 3 was the first to use gravity to change course to photograph the dark side of the Moon. NASA Mariner 10 used the technique to swing by Venus to target Mercury. The gravity sling shot maneuver has become a standard for space navigation.

We have been observing Earth for 40 years now, in the last 20 we have focus with intensity on the planet with new technologies and capabilities, we have accumulated a mass of data that is now revealing a complex and ever changing living planet.

Space is vast, yet it is full of collisions. Gas and dust electrostatically flock together, and gravity takes over coalescing grains into rocks. Those rocks become boulders, then asteroids colliding again and again, striking planets and each other.

Early in the life of the solar system Mars appears to have had Earth-like conditions.

The ringed planet is of immense interest to researchers who believe that Saturn's ring system will share similarities with the proto-planetary disc.

Currently the only destination for Astronauts and Cosmonauts is the orbiting research platform known as the International Space Station.

The solar system's largest planet has been visited by automated probes since the 1970s.

Before spaceflight aviators began wearing pressure suits to allow them to function at higher ceilings.

The Sun is our star. Its energy enables life on the Earth to thrive yet we know so little about the solar weather and the 11 year solar cycle.

Space telescopes orbiting above the distorting effects of the Earth's atmosphere, such as the Hubble, have made incredible contributions to our knowledge of the universe.

There are so many unanswered questions about the stars, the galaxies and the universe and just mapping what lies in the night sky is immensely difficult.

Money has changed more in the last ten years than it has in the last thousand & continues to change.

Mother Nature is the ultimate design innovator.

Military planners are turning to technology to win battles of the future.

Future tech is allowing us to look into the ancient past like never before.

Our world needs new science, research farms, and plant genetics to enhance our ability to grow food.

First Asia hurtled into Europe. Then, India crashed violently into the Asian continent. That shock gave birth to the highest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas. But it also released dangerous gases believed to have caused dinosaur extinction...

Effects from the Indo-Asian collision were felt thousands of kilometers away. The deforming pressure towards the East created Indochina, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan. How else could the remains of primitive Asians have been found in Java?

One billion years ago there was just one great continent on earth. It began to break apart and Europe drifted away. Tectonic collisions, tropical vegetation, inland seas and hot lagoons are what temperate contemporary Europe is made of.

Even before the start of recorded history, ancient engineers were erecting giant monuments.

Awe-inspiring palaces are the legacy that demonstrates the brilliance of Islamic engineers.

Stadiums have been regarded as architectural masterpieces, none more so than the Colosseum in Rome.

How gold is mined and transformed into everyday objects like jewelry and currency.

Naked Science follows the story of a diamond from the creation of carbon inside the heart of a dying sun, through to the cutting of a diamond mine in South Africa.

Stephen Hawking, though suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis has developed a unique understanding of the universe.

Tornados are one of the most destructive forces of the planets with winds at 300 miles an hour. They can destroy buildings and hurl cars hundreds of feet through the air.
