Caroline returns to find that all is not well at Leopard's Den. Danny has been putting a brave face on his ban but his attempts at helping out around the house are getting on everyone's nerves and Alice is finding his back-seat vetting especially hard.
Danny is delighted to have his veterinary license back again and being back at work is helping to distract him from the impending anniversary of Sarah's death.
Du Plessis is restless after his heart surgery but the family insist he needs to relax. Meanwhile Danny and Alice are happy to have closed down a zoo down that has been mistreating animals.
While on honeymoon in London, Alice discovers that Danny has some final business to do before they can return home to Africa. He's reluctantly arranged to meet his estranged father, Robert, who has recently got back in touch.
Danny is throwing himself into his work after the death of his father, and has applied for the role of State Vet. However, Danny's attempts to involve Thabo in the first phase of the Lion Breeding Project lead to Du Plessis feeling like an outsider.
It is Danny's first day as State Vet and when he helps rescue some smuggled animals he feels he's making a difference. However, he discovers the role isn't going to be all plain sailing.
Danny's first big project as State Vet is a major animal translocation, and he is desperate to impress. Meanwhile, whilst Alice is out in the bush treating an injured zebra, she is stalked by lions. She makes it back to her jeep in time but is shaken up.
Alice is still suffering from a loss of nerve after her close shave with the lions and so Danny tries to help her overcome her problems – the Leopard's Den lions have produced their first cub and he needs Alice back in the saddle.
In his role as State Vet, Danny works with wealthy conservationist, Anton Ziegler, to catch a group of leopard hunters. Ziegler is also buying a tiger from Vanessa, who struggling with her finances, desperately needs the money to ensure Mara's future.
Du Plessis has started a one man campaign of vandalism against the new neighbours at Mara; Peeters and the mining company. When Peeters catches him on CCTV, Du Plessis is fined and given a restraining order to keep him away from Mara.
Du Plessis comes to meet Caroline's plane but he doesn't seem happy – he has seen that the mining company have already started building the road which threatens Leopard's Den.
The family are making arrangements to leave Leopard's Den, all except Du Plessis who is steadfastly refusing to accept that he has lost his home. He won't use his share of the money from the sale of the land to buy somewhere else.
The family have been squatting at Leopard's Den as they prepare to make their last stand to prevent the bulldozers from destroying their home. Du Plessis and Fatani bring elephants and a giraffe to dissuade the construction crew from moving in.
After the devastating loss of Leopard's Den, the family are split across continents. Caroline, Liv and a heavily pregnant Alice are in the UK, while Danny and Du Plessis have remained in South Africa.
Danny returns to South Africa with Caroline, Liv and Charlotte. They are all excited to be back and are looking forward to seeing their new home, Clearwater Farm.
Danny has been preparing his pitch for an Endangered Species Project. JLW, a pharmaceutical company, are looking to fund an environmental project and the family hope that this grant money will enable them to buy Leopard's Den and Mara.
Danny and Ed release two cheetah brothers together, a symbol of their new partnership, but not all of the family are happy about this new start. Caroline is still furious at what she sees as Danny's betrayal of Du Plessis.
The family are still estranged following Caroline's decision to move back to the decrepit Clearwater house with Du Plessis. Rosie is determined to reunite everyone, and plans a civilised dinner as a step towards reconciliation.
Danny is in prison, accused of murdering Peeters, but Du Plessis is determined to prove his friend's innocence by any means he can. Du Plessis' first attempt backfires disastrously when he harangues a police officer and ends up in a cell next to Danny.
With Danny away, and Du Plessis undertaking an ignominious stretch of community service, Ed is left in charge of running the Endangered Species Project.
Danny and Ed are anxiously preparing for a review with JLW, the pharmaceutical company that fund their Endangered Species Project. They are desperate for it to go smoothly, and as a result are driving the rest of the family mad.
Following the loss of their funding, the family are in dire financial straits. Danny and Ed attempt to get an extension on their mortgage but are refused. Fiona spurs Ed on, telling him that the man she used to know would have a plan for survival.
Strange things are happening at Leopard's Den. The family awake to find frogs everywhere, seemingly having rained down overnight; the giraffe refuses to budge from the front gate and the cheetah is off its food.
Contending with overweight cats and their over protective owners was not what Danny Trevanion had in mind when he became a vet. So when a scruffy, barely alive African monkey arrives at his practise Danny is fascinated by the challenge.
New Year's Eve at Leopard's Den. Alice has returned, but the stress of combining work with caring for baby Bobby is causing tension between her and Danny. Liv is furious that Fatani hasn't told his mother about their relationship.
Danny is having second thoughts about the wisdom of uprooting his new family and ploughing all their money into a business venture that they know next to nothing about.
A successful giraffe capture means everyone is in high spirits, until the arrival of Evan and Olivia's real father, Simon, throws the family into turmoil.
Evan lets the mischievous meerkats loose in Rosie's room to cause havoc. Rosie is devastated when they destroy an irreplaceable photograph of her mother and rages at Evan. She decides once and for all to go back to Bristol.
